Sapientia aedificat, that is, "wisdom builds" or "knowledge edifies," is the motto of Saint Louis University. Impelled by this profound human truth, SLU has faithfully carried out its avowed educational mission since its foundation in 1911. As a Christian institution of higher learning, SLU has, through the years, formed and shaped young people who are imbued with Christian spirit and are competent, creative and socially iinvolved.

At present, Saint Louis University has nine colleges in pursuit of this mission. They are:

Saint Louis University's commitmment to the young is manifested by its provision of elementary and secondary education through the Saint Louis University Laboratory Elementary School (SLU-LES) and the Saint Louis University Laboratory High School (SLU-LHS).
