Brief History of the College of Accountancy and Commerce

Established in 1952, Saint Louis College (SLC) gave birth to the Department of Commerce. From among the first 75 pioneer students of SLC, the Commerce Department had an enrollment of 39 students of whom 16 were enrolled in the BSC Accounting and 23 in Associate in Secretarial course. The first graduates completed the four-year BSC Accounting course under the late Honorio Estepa Sr., its first dean who held the position from 1954 to 1961.

Initially, the department held its classes at the Antipolo building at Session road but with the increase in enrolment, classes had to be transferred to the St. Aloysius Gonzaga building along General Luna road. The school year 1968-69 was marked by the transfer of the College of Commerce to the Diego Silang building. In SY 1962-63, the integration of Banking and Finance, Economics and Management as major subjects broadened the course offerings of the College. In SY 1970-71, Marketing was included as a major course and in SY 1989-90, the college offered BSC major in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management as a major field of specialization.

In the early 1990s, the College of Commerce became the College of Accountancy and Commerce (CAC) which is also popularly known as "Pamilya Komersiyo". CAC offered Bachelor of Science in Accountancy (BSAc) and Bachelor of Science in Commerce (BSC) major in Business Economics, Management, Entrepreneurial Management, Financial Management, and Marketing.

Both the five-year BSAc Program and the four-year BSC Program have satisfactorily met the standards and fulfilled all the requirements of the PAASCU and are hereby attested to for Level III accreditation.

For its achievement in accounting education as shown by the performance of its examinees in the Certified Public Accountants Licensure Examination, the Professional Regulation Commission and the Board of Accountancy awarded SLU the Achievement Award.

In consonance with the pertinent provisions of the Higher Education Act to expedite the attainment of relevant, responsive and quality higher education in the country, CAC was also identified as a Center of Development in Business and Management Education by the Commission on Higher Education.

CAC offers four Graduate Programs - Doctor of Philosophy in Management (Ph. D. in Management); Master of Science in Accountancy (MSAc); Master of Science in Business Administration (MSBA); and, Master of Science in Public Management (MSPM).
