Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program in United States |
|
Thursday, 09 May 2013 00:00 |
|
Fulbright-Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA)
Introduced in the Philippines in 2004, the FLTA Program has aimed to strengthen foreign language instruction at U.S. educational institutions since 1968 by establishing a native speaker presence. The FLTA Program provides an opportunity for young, international teachers of English to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States while engaging in non-degree studies. FLTAs add an energetic and up-to-date cultural component to foreign language classes as well as to student life on U.S. campuses.
Eligibility requirements:
1. Applicants must be no younger than 23 and no older than 29 years of age at the time of application; must be Filipino citizens. The FLTA Program does not provide J-2 sponsorship for dependents.
2. Applicants must clearly demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity and professionalism.
3. Ideally, FLTAs are outgoing and dynamic individuals with a great sense of humor.
4. Fluency in English is mandatory. A score of no less than 90 (iBT) on the TOEFL is required.
5. Candidates should possess the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree (U.S.) with a good academic record. Master's degrees are highly desirable by many institutions.
6. Teaching experience is preferred. English teachers are eligible, except those from Metro Manila.
Required Documents:
1. Completed online application
2. Official or certified transcript of records from all colleges/universities attended
3. Certified true copy of diploma (not original)
4. Three letters of reference (forms are found on the online application)
5. Supplemental forms
6. Copy of passport
7. TOEFL or IELTS score report (if available)
All interested applicants are required to complete the online application found on https://apply.embark.com/student/fulbright/flta. All other required documents should be received at the PAEF office no later than June 7, 2013.
Application period for the 2014-2015 Fulbright FLTA competition is from January 7, 2013 to June 7, 2013.
Grantees are expected to begin their program in the U.S. in August of 2014.
Philippine-American Educational Foundation
The Philippine – American Educational Foundation announces the 2014-2015 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program in the United States. The application period is from March 1, 2013 to June 7, 2013.
The Humphrey Program brings accomplished professionals from developing countries to the United States at a mid-point in their careers for ten (10) months of study and related practical professional experiences. Fellowships are granted competitively to candidates with a commitment to public service in both the public and private sectors. The program is designed to meet the requirements of policy makers, planners, and managers who have a public service orientation, are committed to their country’s development, and have demonstrated leadership potential.
Applicants may come from the following areas:
Agricultural and rural development
Communications/ journalism
Economic development
Finance and banking
Educational administration, planning and policy
Higher Education Administration
HIV/AIDS policy and prevention
Human resource management
Law and human rights
Natural resources, environmental policy and climate change
Public health policy and management
Public policy analysis and public administration
Substance abuse education, treatment and prevention
Teaching of English as a Foreign Language
Technology policy and management
Trafficking in persons, policy and prevention
Urban and regional planning
The university programs do not address themselves to the scientific or technical aspects of these fields, but rather to broad policy-making and problem-solving issues.
The Humphrey program is NOT intended for technicians, research-oriented professionals, or faculty members with no administrative functions. Candidates should be mid-career professionals committed to public service and should have demonstrated ability to achieve positions of significant responsibility and have the promise of assuming future leadership roles. Dossiers of selected nominees for the Philippines will be reviewed by a panel in the U.S. Final selection of successful candidates will be made by the selection committee in the U.S.
The application form can be downloaded from the PAEF website www.fulbright.org.ph and may be photocopied. Completed applications should be received at the PAEF on or before June 07, 2013.
