18 September. "Prophetic, not nostalgic."

In narrating the story of the adventure of the CICM missionaries for the past 150 years our goal is to present to the present generation the outstanding virtues of those men who dared to make a difference in their lives as missionaries. The concept of the missionary life has evolved over time to remain relevant. Therefore, there is nothing nostalgic or romantic about the missionary life. It is always active and contemporary, ready to deal with pressing situations for immediate and sometimes revolutionary actions. In new historical situations the missionary life must always be reinvented. Otherwise, it loses its profound meaning!

*Today in CICM history: CICM founder Théophile Verbist was ordained   priest in Mechlin, Belgium  by Cardinal Engelbert Sterckx on September 18, 1847.
