January 12. "A transformed vision of education"

Education is a CICM pastoral thrust. Since the start of the missionary work in the Philippines, the relationship between evangelization and education has grown into an important missionary strategy. For how else can social transformation be achieved more effectively except through creating a positive change in people’s thinking? Education aims at the transformation of social consciousness as a necessary condition of structural change. May we at SLU always remember that it is not the massive buildings we have in our campuses that make us great, but the kind of mentality we share with one another.

 
January 11. "Everyone a missionary"

To be a missionary in our own state of life means to be sent to fulfill our individual calling. Called to be a father, mother, husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, professional, student, etc., entails social responsibility, for we do not live for ourselves alone. It basically involves contributing to the transformation of our society according to the measure of the Kingdom of God. This means developing our skills and talents and putting them to good use for the common good. In essence, the Kingdom of God reflects a society where everyone feels valued and respected with utmost dignity.
