A Mission to Transform: Daily Reflections with the President
October 10. "Meetings to meet students’ needs."

We hope that the meetings and conferences we attend inside our university and outside will be able to provide key ideas and insights needed to come up with a rational, relevant, and effective decisions and policies that will help us  plan  the future of our students. For at the risk of belaboring the obvious, our schools exist for the wellbeing of our students.

October 9. "Blessed John Henry Newman"

“Cor ad cor loquitur,” (“The heart speaks with the heart”). With these words Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman frames his Episcopal motto. Beatified on 19 September 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI, John Henry Cardinal Newman was a Catholic convert from the Anglican Church. He was already an influential Anglican Church leader when he entered the Catholic Church on 9 October 1845. Known for his monumental work The idea of the University, which has inspired my inaugural address during my installation in 2005 as SLU president, Cardinal Newman reminds us today about the moral mission of a Catholic university like SLU. Let us help SLU realize this important mission of education for social transformation.
