The avowed institutional goals of Saint Louis University are captured in its vision-mission which states that "We envision SLU as an excellent missionary and transformative educational institution zealous in developing human resources imbued with the Christian Spirit and who are creative, competent and socially involved." What these goals of Louisian education ultimately point out is the transformation of the person, the community and the environment wherein they find themselves. As such, Saint Louis University gives special attention to the development and strengthening of institutional community extension programs. These programs are designed to have a positive impact on the surrounding communities as well as provide occasions whereby the missionary spirit of the students and employees could be developed and expressed.
