Institute for Inclusive Education (IIE)

As a CICM university, SLU has a soft spot for the marginalized and the persons with disabilities. In February 2007, the Institute for Inclusive Education (IIE) was founded with the mission “to ensure that learners who are most vulnerable to marginalization and exclusion, particularly the persons with disabilities, are assured equitable success in education through inclusive practice.” IIE provides services and training to public and private school teachers, in order to equip them with the attitude, knowledge, and skills to deal effectively with the diversity in their classrooms. IIE also pays attention to the specific needs of individual children and makes needed materials and resources available, e.g., by producing Braille books for children with visual impairment.
