On 9 August 2025, the BS Commerce major in Marketing Batch 2005 of the Saint Louis University (SLU) College of Accountancy and Commerce (CAC)—now the School of Accountancy, Management, Computing, and Information Studies (SAMCIS)—held a successful reunion, making history as the first among graduates from the year 2000 onwards to organize such an event. The gathering brought together the majority of the batch’s alumni in a joyful celebration of friendship, nostalgia, and shared experiences, as former classmates reconnected and reminisced about their memorable years at SLU.
A key highlight of the gathering was the election of new alumni officers for the Marketing majors. Alfred Steven Go was elected president, entrusted with leading the batch’s future endeavors. The new leadership team aims to strengthen camaraderie, promote professional development, and engage in meaningful service to the community.
“This reunion is just a steppingstone toward more purpose-driven activities, outreach programs, and events that will benefit not only our batch but also the wider SLU community,” President Go remarked.
The occasion was made more meaningful by the presence of esteemed former CAC professors whose mentorship and guidance played a pivotal role in shaping the academic and professional journeys of the batch. In attendance were Dean Glory I. De La Peña, one of the batch’s former professors and the current Dean of SAMCIS, along with Prof. Richel Lamadrid, PhD, Prof. Glory Drequito, PhD, Prof. Leilani De Guzman, Mrs. Rosario Marzo, Mr. Onie Felizco, Ms. Lorraine Ngaosi, and Mr. Allan Frank Silva. In her remarks, Dean De La Peña expressed her delight at being invited to what she described as a milestone in alumni engagement and proposed the idea of organizing “one big reunion” to involve other majors as well. She emphasized, “Our goal is for the next generation to see that success is not just something to dream about, it can truly become your reality.”
The program also featured an inspiring message from Mrs. Tita Marzo, the batch’s former Economics professor, who encouraged alumni “to continue learning, be inspired and to live life to the fullest.”
Looking ahead, President Go assured attendees that a detailed plan of activities will be shared in the coming days. He stressed that reconnecting with fellow batchmates, especially those overseas, will be a top priority to ensure they have ample time to join upcoming projects. “We expect a massive informational drive, and our goal is to engage as many members as possible in our future ventures,” he added.
The success of the reunion stands as a testament to the enduring bonds formed during the batch’s time at SLU and their shared commitment to staying connected and giving back (SDG 4: Quality Education & 17: Partnerships for the Goals). With renewed enthusiasm, the Marketing Batch 2005 looks forward to more meaningful engagements and impactful initiatives in the years ahead. (Article by Ryan Marvin Mabeza, BSCMktg Batch 2005)
