Louisian journalists from Tanglaw Hilaga and The Louisian participated in a training-workshop conducted in collaboration with Saint Louis University Information Office (SLU-UIO) on February 5, 2026, at the Gerard Decastecker Mini Theater with the aim of honing campus journalistsโ skills in preparation for the upcoming Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC).

The workshop featured Ms. Kathleen Therese Catingub and Mr. Kemm Mitchell Olarte from SLU-UIO and White and Blue, the official student publication of Saint Louis University, as resource speakers for feature writing and broadcasting, respectively.

During the talk, Ms. Catingub shared her writing process and tips in developing articles, drawing from her experience as an intern at ABS-CBN. She emphasized the importance of reading as an input-output process that helps writers in shaping oneโs writing style and strengthening their grammar.

A writing workshop followed, where participants completed writing exercises and underwent critiquing sessions designed to simulate actual DSPC competition conditions. A question-and-answer session also allowed Louisan journalists to seek tips related to their respective writing categories as well as advice regarding journalism competitions.

For broadcasting, Filipino and English radio broadcasting teams conducted run-throughs of their pieces, where Mr. Olarte provided cliniquing and feedback, particularly on voice modulation, scriptwriting improvement, and technical considerations to refine broadcast delivery.

The training-workshop is part of Saint Louis University Basic Education Schoolโs intensive preparation efforts to equip Louisian journalists with adequate knowledge, skills, and competitive readiness for the DSPC, which will be held on February 6-8, 2026.
