In 2024, Saint Louis University (SLU) played a key role as one of the collaborating institutions in developing the Cordillera Heritage 101 Workbook (CORDI 101), part of Project Cordillera Higher Education Regional Integration and Teaching of Appropriate, Genuine, and Exhaustive studies on Indigenous Peoples (HERITAGE). This initiative reflects a strong commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Cordillera region.
CORDI 101 is an educational resource designed to deepen understanding of the history, indigenous knowledge and socio-cultural heritage of the Cordilleran ethnic groups. The workbook supports a course that explores the unique traditions, practices, and challenges faced by these communities. Through culturally sensitive and comprehensive content CORDI 101 encourages immersive learning fostering students’ connection to their cultural roots while nurturing social responsibility, environmental stewardship, and community development. This resource was developed collaboratively among HIgher Education Institutions to ensure its relevance and impact on local education.
SLU’s involvement in this project also aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It particularly supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive and equitable learning, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) through protections of cultural and natural heritage, and SDG 13 (Climate Action) by advocating for environmental responsibility grounded in indigenous wisdom.
