In a vibrant celebration of the 52nd Anniversary of Saint Louis University (SLU) Parish, SLU honored the life of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga through a show by the SLU Center for Culture and the Arts (SLU-CCA). The event highlighted the life and enduring legacy of the University’s patron saint and the Louisian community’s dedication to its spiritual roots.
On 19 June 2024, the Fr. Joseph Van den Daelen, CICM- CCA Theater became the stage for an evocative tribute to Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. The SLU Dance Troupe, SLU Orchestra, Tanghalang SLU, and SLU Glee Club collaborated to present a moving performance that traced the journey of St. Aloysius to sainthood. Through a blend of dance, music, and choral arrangements, the life and virtues of St. Aloysius were brought to life, inspiring the audience with his unwavering commitment to faith, humility, and service.
The celebration continued on 20 June 2024, with a special event marking the 7th Sacerdotal Anniversary of Rev. Fr. Emery Ebumea Mwako, CICM, Parish Priest and SLU Vice President for Mission and Identity. The event commenced with a spirited motorcade, starting from the SLU Maryheights Campus to the SLU Main Campus Grounds. This was followed by a solemn Mass at the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Parish, which marked the last day of the Novena, mass Baptism and Confirmation, and which celebrated Fr. Emery’s Sacerdotal Anniversary.
“Today, as we also celebrate the Sacerdotal Anniversary, may I ask you to pray for me in order to make my life a meaningful gift for Him— a gift for others. And as you know, it is the seventh Sacerdotal Anniversary; seven signifies completion and perfection, holiness and sanctification,”
remarked Fr. Emery.
A dinner at the SLU Ladies Residence Halls, attended by guests and employees alike, then followed.
The aforementioned events not only commemorated the significant anniversaries but also reinforced the strong sense of community and faith that defines Saint Louis University. Through these celebrations, SLU continues to uphold its heritage and foster a spirit of unity and devotion among its stakeholders.
Tomorrow, on 21 June 2024, SLU will observe the Feast Day Proper of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga through a Eucharistic Celebration to be held at the Fr. Paul Van Parijs Events Center, and to be followed by a simple program and luncheon at the Prince Bernhard Gym.
