The iHEART project, an inclusive workplace wellbeing program by Saint Louis University – Sacred Heart Medical Center (SHMC), earned a prestigious Honourable Mention during the American Hospital Association Excellence Award for Healthcare Workers’ Wellbeing. Aldren R. Remon, RN, PhD, Chief Patient Experience Officer, accepted the award on behalf of SLU-SHMC during the 47th International Hospital Federation (IHF) World Hospital Congress on 11 September 2024 at the Windsor Convention and Expo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.



The American Hospital Association Excellence Award for Healthcare Workers’ Wellbeing is given to organizations that demonstrate outstanding achievements in ensuring the wellbeing and sustainability of healthcare workers. The judging process included a thorough evaluation conducted by the Awards Committee, which consisted of 44 healthcare leaders and senior executives from various countries. Out of more than 500 entries from 37 countries, SLU-SHMC was recognized for its excellent commitment to the health and wellness of its employees, creating a sustainable healthcare environment.
The IHF Awards are recognized globally as the premier awards program to honor hospitals and healthcare organizations. They acknowledge innovation, good practice, and service improvement in healthcare delivery among IHF member organizations worldwide. This ceremony is held annually to showcase excellence in hospital leadership and management, aligning with one of the IHF’s core programs that promote international knowledge and sharing.
Looking ahead, SLU-SHMC plans to continue this wellness program and other healthcare initiatives, further demonstrating its commitment to the wellbeing of its employees and the community. This dedication aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 Good Health and Well-Being, ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all at all ages. The award also affirms the CICM Advocacy of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation, enhancing the quality of care provided to patients.
