Saint Louis University’s (SLU) School of Law (SOL) won in the Intellectual Property (IP) Circle League’s inter-school competition, The Debate, with contenders from SLU Debate and Mooting Society (SLU DEMOS). The IP Circle League hosted a series of inter-school competitions where students created, interacted with, refined, competed, learned, and experienced Intellectual Property.
The preliminaries were held virtually via Zoom Telecommunications, Inc. on 29 October 2024. The Semi-Final and Final Rounds were done face-to-face at the IP Office of the Philippines, Taguig on 15 November 2024.
One (1) Team composed of the following enrolled law students as listed participated. It took the entire SOL community—the SOL faculty and Dean, DEMOS advisers, DEMOS officers and members, and even the alumni to prepare the delegates for the event. As part of their preparations, they had to attend virtual practices with SOL alumni, and cross-debate with other debate organizations of law schools from the Philippines, including the University of the Cordilleras (UC) Order of International Law and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) College of Law Moot Court and Debate Society and consult with their faculty instructors and Dean specializing on the topic to glean more incite for debate points.
During the Preliminary Rounds, SLU battled with Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) and UC. They won both garnering them a perfect break.
For the Semi-Final Round, SLU went head-on against Mindanao State University (MSU) and later the PUP where they won both matches. Among all the four (4) participants for the Semi-Final Round, SLU had the highest number of wins and the greatest score in speech. The same afternoon, SLU bagged the trophy and won as a Champion of The Debate.
Through their participation in the IP Circle League debate competition, SLU continues to pursue the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)
