The Saint Louis University Mining Engineering Society (SLU MinES) launched the ‘BATANGAN’ program in November 2024. This program seeks to enable students to This program enables students to optimize and enhance technical knowledge and practical skills. It also raises awareness and pursues improvement of ethical mining practices and helps to avoid misconceptions about the field.
In line with the BATANGAN program, the SLU MinES set up ‘MINAhusay’, a platform for exchanging knowledge, which SLU MinES seeks to improve the public’s perception of mining by promoting a greater understanding and awareness of the industry’s complexities and its contribution.
Internal Vice President of SLU MinES, Frances Yana Aquin stated, “Educate them (students), rather than correct them.” This is accomplished through the program’s initiative, such as technical series lectures, mine fieldwork, and on-the-job training events related to courses of Mining Engineering students.
This extended knowledge highlighted the power of understanding and great connection among the community. The SLU MinES contributes to promote the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) namely: SDG 4: Quality Education.
