The Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants (JPIA) – Saint Louis University (SLU) Chapter once again proved its excellence at the recent 23rd Regional Mid-Year Convention (RMYC) on 7–9 January 2025, at the Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza, Baguio City.
Themed “Glacial Oasis: Drift in the Snow’s Embrace, Discover Winter’s Mystique,” the annual event hosted by the National Federation of Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants – Region 1 and Cordillera Administrative Region (NFJPIA-R1CAR) aimed to provide a platform for accountancy students across the region to showcase their academic and non-academic talents through a series of engaging competitions. The RYMC also opened opportunities for participants to build networks and foster meaningful connections in the field.
Amid the frigid Cordilleran cold, eight Louisian students shone brightly on the regional stage competitions spanning academic and non-academic categories. The SLU Tax Team composed of Axa Gwen Dao-ilang, Erika Emanuelle Domingo, Alyanna Lawrice Rasing, Allen Jo Pascua, team leader Jun II Macario, and coach Atty. Rosemarie P. Areno, rose as victors in the Tax Case Study Competition. The team demonstrated their extensive mastery of the Taxation subject in a two-part competition composed of a Written Round and an Oral Defense. Domingo was hailed the Best Presenter. As a result, SLU is set to represent NFJPIA-R1CAR in the national round.
Securing spots in the individual quiz bee categories were Pascua (CAT Cup 4: Regulatory Framework in Business Transactions, 4th Place), Rasing (CAT Cup 2: Advanced Financial Accounting and Reporting, 6th Place), and Kahlil Mahatma Cabal (CAT Cup 4: Regulatory Framework in Business Transactions, 8th Place).
In the Non-Academic category, John Trif Pacho cinched the 3rd spot in the Extemporaneous Speech category, showcasing his English speaking skills and quick wits. In the President-exclusive Quizidents category, JPIA-SLU President Lance DJ Manzano finished fifth, exemplifying his general knowledge and awareness of current events.
Guided by the four Core Values of SLLU and anchored on Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, achievements like these are attestations of JPIA-SLU’s continuous leanings to elevate the quality and standards of Louisian accountancy students. With the consistent support of the Department of Accountancy and the SLU Administration, JPIA-SLU aims to nurture promising Louisian accountants and leaders who will shape the future of our society.
