In January 2025, the SLU School of Law and the Chief Justice Manuel V. Moran Community Legal Assistance Office (CJMM CLAO) conducted key activities aimed at empowering Law Student Practitioners (LSPs) and reaching out to the community.
On 17 January 2025, CJMM CLAO held an orientation for LSPs for the Second Semester of A.Y. 2024–2025 through a blended setup at the SLU Main Campus Moot Court and via Zoom. The session introduced the clinic’s history and services, clarified the rights and duties of LSPs under the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP), and laid out compliance and monitoring procedures for service hour requirements.
On 24 January 2025, CJMM CLAO conducted a seminar titled “IPRA: Paggunita at Pagpapahalaga sa Pagkakaiba-iba” for high school students of Saint Louis School, Inc., Baguio City. The talk explored the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act (IPRA), including its legal foundations and key provisions such as Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title and Certificate of Ancestral Land Title, highlighting local jurisprudence from the Cordillera region.
These initiatives support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing legal learning and exposure, and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) by providing access to justice through supervised representation.
They also reflect the CICM advocacy for justice and the rights of indigenous peoples by ensuring communities are informed and legally empowered. We thank all our Law Student Practitioners for their dedication and commitment to these endeavors. (Article and Photos by SOL and CJMM CLAO)
