The Association of Geodetic Engineering Students (AGES) successfully convened its 9th Annual North Luzon Geodetic Engineering Students Conference (NLGESC) with the theme “Panagmaymaysa: Establishing Networks Towards a Sustainable Future” from 8 to 9 February 2025 at the Hotel Supreme Convention Plaza.
The conference gathered 131 delegates, including students and faculty from geodetic engineering programs across North Luzon. Participating institutions included Mountain Province State University (MPSU), University of Northern Philippines (UNP), Baguio Central University (BCU), and the host university, Saint Louis University (SLU).
Upon the introduction of the event’s theme and participating schools, AGES Adviser Engr. Rick Allester G. Arellano delivered his opening remarks and welcoming address. The program then commenced, highlighting technical sessions, interactive activities, and networking opportunities.
Atty. Joann Kirsten Javier, who is also a geodetic engineer, shared her career journey. She talked about the intersection of legal and technical aspects within the field. Following this, Georasa, a team under RASA Surveying and Realty, showcased innovative smart and digital twin solutions, emphasizing the role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in nation-building.
Engr. Isabelo Cosalan Jr., a geodetic engineer and public servant, addressed the crucial role of ethics and public service in the engineering profession. Engr. Rowena Caccam, from the DENR-CAR Regional Office, then presented the Department of Agrarian Reform’s SPLIT Project, fostering dialogue on local issues.
“GE in Action,” a fun socializing event, allowed students to engage with geodetic engineering principles through interactive games. An instrumentation session led by Engr. Jose Enciso of Tecphil Geosolutions Co., provided hands-on experience with cutting-edge surveying equipment from TErsus GNSS Inc. Participating schools showcased their talents during the on-the-spot intermissions, and a “PaGElingan Quiz Show” tested student’s knowledge.
Mr. Isaiah John G. Diaz, the AGES Vice President of Internal Affairs, concluded the event by delivering the closing remarks and thanking the participants and all responsible for the event’s success.
The conference successfully aligned with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs): Quality Education (SDG 4) by enhancing academic knowledge and skills and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) through networking, collaboration, and sponsorships. The event also contributed to UN SDG 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions by fostering dialogue and empowering students.
