The Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineers – Saint Louis University Student Chapter (PIIE-SLU SC) showcased a strong performance during the kickoff of IEshikawa 19 APIS: The Harmony of Nature and Design held on 21-22 February 2025, at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City.
PIIE-SLU SC bagged second runner up in the Design Sprint Hackathon among ten teams. The team, led by coach Engr. Mark Emriel Parlan, included Mac Steeven Cabrera, Kaiserie Zhea Alliah Kuizon, Ciejay Oandasan, and Lawrence Konrad Quizon.
In the Quiz Bee competition, PIIE-SLU SC clinched the third runner up spot out of 14 competing teams. Coached by Engr. Anthony James Domingo, the team was represented by Princess Jun Abata, Jireh Jose Irangan, Sydney Jade Ortiz, and Krista Mae Ramos.
PIIE-SLU SC also joined the Case Study Competition represented by Marius Josiah Apostol, Julianne Kate Fangonil, Freda Macaling, and Ashlee Jade Rozul, under the guidance of Engr. Maria Corazon Ocampo.
Beyond the competitions, 45 PIIE-SLU students engaged in a series of workshops and plenary talks, covering topics such as ergonomics, sustainable logistics, AI in manufacturing, lean manufacturing, and circular economy principles. Key speakers included Ramil Martinez, Marela Anne Codico, and Marion Micah Tinio, who tackled pressing issues in sustainability and workplace ergonomics. These sessions promoted network-building and collaboration with experts as well as other Industrial Engineering students from schools across the country, while highlighting real-world applications of their academic knowledge.
IEshikawa 19 reinforced the role of Industrial Engineers in advancing sustainable design, logistics, and manufacturing, with PIIE-SLU proudly demonstrating their expertise and competitive spirit. (Article by Anthony James Domingo, Faculty, Industrial Engineering Department, SEA)
