The Department of Education (DepEd) and the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) successfully conducted the 2025 Training of Trainers (ToT) for the Senior High School (SHS) Teachers’ In-Service Training (INSET) from February 20 to 23, 2025 at Holiday Inn and Suites, Lima Park Estate, Malvar, Batangas.
With the theme “Preparing SHS Teachers to Teach the Core Subjects of the Revised SHS Curriculum – A Crucial Step for the Future of SHS Education in the Philippines,” the training aimed to equip educators with the necessary expertise to implement the revised SHS curriculum effectively. A total of 156 SHS content specialists from various top-performing SHS schools across the Philippines participated in the program, including eight (8) teachers from Saint Louis University-Basic Education School (SLU-BEdS): Dr. Lorelynn Castillo for English, Mrs. Melanie Pugoy and Mr. Clint Sawangin for Filipino, Mr. Roy Asignacion for Earth and Life Sciences, Mrs. Patricia Oberos for Physical Science, Ms. Evermi Candiao for General Mathematics, and Mrs. Janice Carbonel for Statistics.
The 4-day intensive training focused on curriculum updates tailored to the revised SHS curriculum. The sessions featured interactive workshops, lesson planning, peer discussions, and collaborative activities designed to enhance teaching-learning competencies.
Education expert Dr. Gina Montalan served as the consultant for the training, providing valuable insights on curriculum alignment, instructional design, and competency-based teaching strategies. Her expertise guided the trainers in understanding the critical changes in SHS education and ensuring alignment with global educational standards.
Furthermore, PEAC Executive Director Dr. Rhodora Angela Ferrer graced the training and emphasized the significance of the program, stating, “As we prepare for the implementation of the revised SHS curriculum, it is crucial that our educators are well-trained to ensure a seamless transition. This Training of Trainers will empower SHS teachers to deliver high-quality education and shape the future of our learners.”
The Training of Trainers (ToT) plays a vital role in the nationwide rollout of the revised SHS curriculum, empowering SHS educators to implement the changes in their respective institutions effectively. The impact of this training is expected to strengthen the quality of Private SHS education across the Philippines.
