The SLU-Industrial Engineering Department accomplished Project 2-Activity 1 of their current extension program entitled “Implementing a 5S-LIFE Program at Happy Hallow Barangay: Layout, Information, Five-S, Evacuation Strategies to Enhance Happy Hallow Barangay’s Safety and Information Programs” on February 27, 2025. The SLU extension team was composed of faculty and students of the Industrial Engineering Department who took part in the planning, preparation, as well as execution of the activities during that day.


The event during that day covered the following activities:
1. Summary of all 1st semester accomplishments of Happy Hallow Barangay under 1S-SORT and 2S-SET IN ORDER
2. A Seminar-Workshop that started with a recap of 1S (Sort) and 2S (Set in Order) principles, followed by a general orientation and process steps for 3S (Shine), and concluded with an introduction to 4S- Standardize. The resource speaker was Anthony James Domingo, faculty of Industrial Engineering.
3. After the seminar, a workshop was conducted by the Barangay Council together with the IE Department extensionists to discuss 3S implementation plans per area. The workshop was followed by a presentation of output by the different working groups.
4. Turnover of donated 5S materials by SLU to Happy Hallow Barangay to support the accomplishment of 5S tasks.
5. Evaluation of extension activity for proper monitoring and feedback.



The participants for this extension activity included six faculty members of Industrial Engineering, namely– Maria Lourdes Bibit-Chee, Anthony James Domingo, Mark Emriel Parlan, Geraldine Nerona, Michelle Adiwang, and Abegail Tagal. 27 BSIE students also participated in planning and executing activities, while six barangay council members and six parent volunteers were the program participants.
During the extension activities, the importance of 5S in improving the barangay’s safety, orderliness, and operational efficiency was recognized by the barangay council, and they were able to connect them to better service delivery with the intention of elevating the quality of life of the barangay citizens.
