Saint Louis University (SLU), a recognized Center of Excellence in Teacher Education, was invited to the Ceremonial Signing of the CHED-PRC Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) on the alignment of teacher education curriculum and teacher licensure examination on 10 April 2025, 10:00am, at the Malacanañg Palace.
In line with the directives of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. during the Sectoral Meeting with Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II) in March, the Teacher Education Council (TEC), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), worked towards the agreement which will revolutionize teacher licensing by introducing distinct examinations for each teacher education program specialization, as outlined in the 2017 CHED Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs). This move overcomes the limitations of the Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 (Republic Act No. 7836) by providing the necessary correct assessment for graduates of teacher education in different specializations, while the amendatory legislation is underway.

SLU was represented Executive Assistant to the President Joselito C. Gutierrez, PhD, and Vice President for Academic Affairs Felina P. Espique, PhD. Dr. Espique was also invited as a member of the CHED Technical Panel for Teacher Education and as Teacher Education Council Representative for Luzon.
SLU’s active participation in events such as this underscores its steadfast commitment to the global and national pursuit of quality education. As a recognized center of excellence in teacher education, SLU aligns itself with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) and the Philippine government’s vision by championing inclusive, equitable, and lifelong learning opportunities for all.
This is in line with the directives of the University President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, whose leadership continues to guide SLU in its mission of academic excellence. Through its academic leadership and community engagement, SLU remains a vital partner of the Philippine Government in shaping an empowered and educated society. (Article by F.
