In a remarkable act of generosity and school spirit, the Class of 1979, fondly known as “The Stouthearted Men,” donated ₱887,795 worth of brand new musical instruments to their beloved alma mater, Saint Louis University (SLU). This heartfelt contribution marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time the school has received a complete set of instruments from benefactors.
The turnover ceremony took place on 9 May 2025 at Gerard Decaestecker Building, Navy Base Campus, attended by members of Class ’79, school administrators, faculty, and students. The instruments were ceremonially accepted by Mr. Alejandro Pablico, Principal of the SLU Basic Education School and Mrs. Marivic Macadaeg, SLU Band Trainer.

This generous initiative was led by Mr. Danilo Licudine, President of the Stouthearted Men Class of 1979, along with Mr. Gabriel Alabanza, Immediate Past President; Mr. Ricardo de Peralta, President from 2014 to 2019; Mr. Rene Acantilado, President from 2009 to 2014; and Mr. Ronald Hidalgo, Treasurer.
The donation includes a wide variety of high-quality instruments to enhance the school’s music program and provide students with the instruments they need to nurture their talents and pursue their passion for music. With improved resources, school performances and music events are expected to reach new heights, bringing pride and joy to the entire school community.
The Class of 1979 even plans to continue supporting the school through sustainable scholarship programs, aiming to help deserving students not only access education but also thrive and give back in their own time.
Symbolizing a lasting legacy, the donation reflects the enduring bond between the Class of 1979 and the school they once called home. Through this meaningful contribution, the Stouthearted Men have shown true courage, heart, and dedication living up to the name they proudly carry.
The school community has expressed deep gratitude for the support, which is expected to inspire students, energize the music department, and uplift school events for years to come. These efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). (Article and Photos by Sarah Kelly C. Aquiapao, OGRAA)
