On 21 October 2025, the New Louisian Philosophical Society(NEOLOUPHIS), the co-curricular organization of the Philosophy Department of Saint Louis University’s (SLU) School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) conducted a workshop seminar in collaboration with the SLU Center for Counseling and Wellness (CCW) with the theme, “Empowering Student Leaders: A Workshop on Building Skills for Supporting Vulnerable Populations.”
This workshop was held in line with the organization’s outreach initiative “Project Kuwago,” specifically Project Dunong. As part of the project, the NEOLOUPHIS as well as willing volunteers, will conduct a tutoring session with the children of the target communities under Project Dunong. To ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, NEOLOUPHIS collaborated with CCW to train NEOLOUPHIS volunteers in handling the vulnerable children who are the main beneficiaries for Project Dunong.
The workshop featured two speakers from the CCW, specifically, Ma’am Marcina Barrozo-Castillo, RGC, and Ma’am Nichole Ontal-Laguitan, RPsy. Their talks featured two distinct themes. One was possible behavioral issues that could be faced when dealing with children and the other was what the term “Vulnerable Children” meant and how one should navigate such realities.
The workshop was a testament of the STELA’s shared commitment to cultivating compassionate, competent, and socially responsive leadership, which is directly aligned with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), particularly No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Partnerships for the Foals (SDG 17).
