Saint Louis University – Sacred Heart Medical Center (SLU-SHMC) bagged the Gold Award of the Seddiqi Holding Excellence Award for Social and Environmental Responsibility during the International Hospital Federation Awards 2025 during the 48th World Hospital Congress at Campus Biotech, Geneva, Switzerland, on 12 November 2025.
Of the over 740 submissions from 81 countries and across eight categories, SLU-SHMC’s entry “Water is Life: Nurturing and Flowing Sustainability Beyond Hospital Walls,” was chosen for its green leadership initiatives and practices. The award was received by University President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD; Medical Center Chief, Dr. Paul Adlai B. Quitiquit; Office of Patient Experience (OPE) Head, Aldren R. Remon, PhD; and Engr. Mark Joseph G. Lacambra.
Winning Gold in the Seddiqi Holding Excellence Award for Social and Environmental Responsibility recognizes SLU SHMC’s initiatives in advancing corporate social responsibility while aligning with key areas of organizational sustainability, strategy, and delivery.


This achievement acknowledged the hospital’s impact on healthcare and its continuous provision of accessible, inclusive, and high-quality services to its patients. It also displayed its expertise in leadership and governance, recognizing the steps they have taken in building a reliable, practical, and collaborative system within the institution. Moreover, the recognition remarked on SLU SHMC’s commitment in promoting more eco-friendly efforts in reducing its carbon footprint and fighting against climate change through clinical measures.
Furthermore, receiving this prestigious award served as a testament to the significant contributions of SLU-SHMC as a healthcare provider that drives change in the modern medical field. As it is aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, the award demonstrates how SLU will continue to move forward in the industry advancing in social and environmental responsibility.
