Saint Louis University (SLU) – School of Accountancy, Management, Computing, and Information Studies (SAMCIS) celebrates a remarkable achievement by one of its own. Mr. Jordan M. Tangonan, a faculty member and proud alumnus of the school, has clinched the prestigious Certified Forensic Accountant (CrFA®) title with high distinction.
The CrFA® Accreditation Program, administered by the Institute of Certified Forensic Accountants (ICFA), is a globally accredited comprehensive certification that helps equip professionals with advanced skills in financial investigation, fraud detection, and forensic accounting techniques. The curriculum combines accounting, financial analysis, investigative techniques, law, and litigation to ensure a deep understanding of financial misconduct and fraud prevention. Earning a high distinction on the CrFA® examination demonstrates a candidate’s exceptional analytical rigor, ethical grounding, and mastery of investigative techniques.
In an interview, Mr. Tangonan shared that Forensic Accounting has never been more relevant than it is today, given the growing concerns over corruption and fraudulent transactions. He firmly believes that the rise of forensic accountants will play a pivotal role in uncovering these misdeeds and in deterring and eventually preventing such unfortunate occurrences.
He also emphasized that while some professionals argue that the accountancy profession is becoming obsolete, it is, in fact, evolving. “Accountancy is adapting to the ever-changing needs of various industries and specialties, becoming more flexible and versatile. The rise of fields like Accounting Information Systems, Forensic Accounting, and the recent introduction of Medical Accounting serve as prime examples of this evolution. We are also exploring the possibility and are hopeful that the university will offer the Forensic Accounting course in the future”, he added.
Mr. Jordan Tangonan completed his degrees in Accounting Technology, Management Accounting, and Marketing Management between 2013 and 2016. Then, later, returned to the School of Advanced Studies to pursue a Master’s in Business Administration, graduating in 2023. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Department of Accountancy, Business Laws, and Taxation (ABLT) as a faculty member. In addition to the CrFA®, Mr. Tangonan holds the United Kingdom-based Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP®) designation, and possesses two local certifications in Internal Auditing and Financial Management.
With the growing need for greater transparency and expertise, SLU-SAMCIS remains committed to nurturing excellence and innovation in its academic programs. This achievement reaffirms the institution’s commitment to quality education and shows a strong foundation for taking a leading role in developing forensic accounting knowledge aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education.
