LIPA CITY, BATANGAS — In a continuous effort to provide professional and efficient service to the Louisian community, a multidisciplinary delegation from the Saint Louis University (SLU) Finance and Accounting Offices conducted a comprehensive benchmarking visit to De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) on 13 March 2026.
Led by Roberto M. Arguelles, PhD, Vice President for Finance, the delegation included key representatives from the Accounting, Business Affairs, Budgeting, and Systems Administration offices. The activity was designed as a proactive step to gather technical insights and “best-in-class” practices as SLU prepares for a significant upgrade of its institutional financial and accounting systems.
Learning from Digital Pioneers
The visit provided a transparent look into how modern educational institutions can leverage digital tools to create a paperless, cloud-based environment. The SLU team explored DLSL’s journey in transitioning to a fully digital ecosystem, which they achieved through a “direct cutover” strategy—moving directly to a modernized system to ensure immediate operational alignment.
The delegation spent the morning reviewing sophisticated workflows in procurement, vendor management, and automated disbursements. A primary focus was the balance between automation and internal control; the team observed how digital platforms can enforce multi-level approvals and clear accountability while reducing the administrative burden on individual departments.
Strategic Roadmap for SLU
Beyond the technical software demonstrations, the benchmarking activity highlighted the human and procedural side of digital transformation. One of the main takeaways was the importance of cleaning up data, ensuring financial records are accurate and well-organized before switching systems, and tightening internal processes so they align with modern digital standards.
This benchmarking activity serves as a testament to Saint Louis University’s commitment to administrative excellence. By analyzing the successful digital strategies of peer institutions, the university ensures that its own operational transition is grounded in proven methodologies that prioritize institutional transparency and efficiency.
Better Service for Stakeholders
The insights gathered from this visit will serve as a vital roadmap for SLU’s upcoming operational upgrades. The University aims to reduce reliance on manual entries, speed up transaction processing times, and provide a more robust, user-friendly financial foundation for students, faculty, and administrative partners alike by integrating these lessons.(Article by Maria Lorena F.
