With the theme “Championing Better Academic Practice,” the 1st International Conference in Higher Education (ICAPHE) was held on 30 June 2023 at the Acacia Hotel Manila attended by more than 130 participants from 51 public and private Higher Education Institutions across the Philippines.
The conference’s aim was to mobilize advocates eager to confront the challenges of ensuring efficient and enriching higher education delivery through better teaching and learning modes and methods. Topics discussed were: Higher Education in the Philippines and the United Kingdom, Professional Qualifications in Higher Education, and Transforming Delivery of Higher Education in the Philippines presented by esteemed resource persons from the Philippines, United Kingdom, and Malaysia.
The iCAPHE is an offshoot of the Transformative Academic Practice in Higher Education in the Philippines (TAPHEP) Project funded by CHED and implemented through the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) and the University of Liverpool (UoL) with beneficiaries from 19 Philippine Higher Education Institutions including Saint Louis University (SLU).
SLU, represented by Dr. Felina P. Espique, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, signed the expression of commitment in support of the Community of Practice (CoP) for Higher Education practitioners in the country. Engr. Jeffrey Des Binwag, a TAPHEP alumnus, served as a member of the iCAPHE secretariat and helped develop the module for CoP for Academic Practice in Higher Education presented in the conference.
This activity is aligned with SDG#3: Quality Education, and SDG#17: Partnerships for Goals. More details on the ICAPHE can be accessed through articles published by the University of the Philippines Los Banos and Central Mindanao University.
