Through the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Institutions of the Philippines (COCOPEA) and the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), Saint Louis University (SLU) joins the Training of Lead Trainers on the MATATAG Curriculum held from 5-9 February 2024 at the Red Hotel, Cubao, Quezon City.
COCOPEA and CEAP-CAR identified one expert per learning area and three teachers from SLU-BEdS attended the training: Ms. Joan F. Alim (Araling Panlipunan), Ms. Florida C. Martin (TLE), and Ms. Claire K. Lupos (Kindergarten). Ms. Marcia M. Viray of Saint Louis School Center, Inc. was also identified by CEAP-CAR to complete the delegation coming from the region.
The five-day intensive training of Lead Trainers organized by the Curriculum and Teaching Strand of the Department of Education (DepEd) and the National Education Academy of the Philippines (NEAP), aimed to discuss the salient features of the MATATAG Curriculum and present the session guides for the implementation of the curriculum in Kindergarten, Grades 1, 4, and 7 in preparation for the upcoming rollout of regional training.
Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, SLU President, being the Regional Trustee of CEAP-CAR and Regional Program Director of PEAC-CAR, shares the vision of the DepEd in advancing the educational system in the Philippines by identifying experts from Catholic private schools in the region to take part in this event.
The participation of SLU in this event directly aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). The MATATAG Curriculum, with its focus on enhancing scientific, technological, engineering, and environmental literacy, directly contributes to the pursuit of SDG 4 by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Furthermore, the involvement of SLU in initiatives like this reflects the institution’s dedication to the advocacy of peace and justice, in line with the values espoused by the CICM.
By actively engaging in educational initiatives that promote equity, social justice, and sustainable development, SLU exemplifies its commitment to fostering a culture of peace and justice within its community and beyond. Through collaborative efforts with organizations like COCOPEA and CEAP, the university continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of education in the Philippines while contributing to the broader global agenda of sustainable development and peacebuilding.
