In preparation for the MATATAG Curriculum Summit for Regions 1, 2, and CAR slated on 11 and 12 April 2024, Saint Louis University (SLU), through Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, the Executive Assistant to the President and CEAP member of the National Basic Education Commission, attended the MATATAG Summit held last 21 to 22 March 2024 at San Beda College, Alabang.
Dr. Gutierrez delivered a talk on “Operationalizing a Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum Focused on Enhancing Student Learning” and was joined by three teachers from the SLU Basic Education School who will also assist in cascading the MATATAG Agenda in the region, namely Mrs. Joan Alim (Araling Panlipunan), Mrs. Claire Lupos (Kindergarten), and Miss Florida Martin (TLE).
Previously, a series of meetings and dialogues was initiated by Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, SLU President, CEAP – CAR Regional Trustee, and PEAC – CAR Regional Program Director, on how to respond to the challenges that private schools may face in implementing the MATATAG Curriculum come AY 2024-2025.
SLU, as the seat of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) and the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) in the Cordillera Administrative Region, is among the prime movers in convening the Catholic and Private schools in the region to upgrade their lesson delivery that is responsive to the calls of the Department of Education.
This involvement of the university captures the CICM Advocacy on Justice and Peace and UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
