The Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines – Saint Louis University Student Chapter (IECEP-SLU SC) conducted their Outreach Program entitled “Project Spark: Illuminating Futures with a Festive Heart” on the 23 March 2024 at Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries of the Philippines Inc. located at Cosmos Street, Ciudad Grande, Subdivision Phase 1, Baguio. The activity aimed to ignite, inspire learning, and foster a Christian community among the children under the Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries Philippines Inc.’s care and strengthen the bond between SLU students and their organization.
Project Spark, a CICM Advocacy initiative, ignites a commitment to Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation. This shows ensuring fair treatment, dismantling inequalities, fostering community harmony, and promoting responsible environmental practices. Project Spark strives to challenge injustices, promote peaceful resolutions, and champion sustainability, envisioning a world where all can thrive in a just, calm, and ecologically harmonious future.
Furthermore, Project Spark aligns with four (4) United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Encouraging both the officers and the children to participate in the different activities the organization has prepared directly contributes to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being). Research indicates the importance of mental health support to children who may have experienced trauma or loss. By organizing the Outreach Program, the organization prioritizes the overall well-being of children, providing them with the support they need while fostering a sense of belongingness through the activities prepared.
The event also promoted SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing the children with insightful lessons during the storytelling portion of the program and giving them school supplies. Through engaging narratives, the children are entertained and exposed to valuable insights that can enhance their cognitive development and creativity. Furthermore, the outreach program supports SDG 16 (Reduced Inequalities) by advocating for their rights and fostering a safe and supportive environment for them to enjoy while ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, receive equitable treatment and opportunities for participation in decision-making processes that affect their well-being.
Lastly, through Project Spark, the organization actively supports SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by partnering with Helping Hands Healing Hearts Ministries of the Philippines INC, fostering collaboration and collective action to achieve shared objectives in improving the well-being of orphaned children. This collaboration allows for the consolidation of resources, skills, and connections to enhance the effectiveness of interventions, ensuring enduring assistance and comprehensive growth for orphaned children. By leveraging partnerships and fostering synergies, the organization exemplifies the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the SDGs and creating positive change in the lives of vulnerable children.
