The School of Engineering and Architecture Honor Society (SEAHS) embarked on a mission to support SEA students in their academic journey through Project MaTuto. Initially targeting freshmen and sophomores preparing for preliminary examinations in September 2023, this initiative has evolved into a cornerstone of academic support within the School of Engineering and Architecture at Saint Louis University.
Since its inception, Project MaTuto has been a consistent presence, spanning from the prelims to finals of the first semester and continuing into the second semester of the academic year. Each tutorial session, accommodating 10-30 students at a time, is a testament to SEAHS’ commitment to academic excellence and student empowerment. This tutoring initiative has seen partnerships with different co-curricular organizations at SLU such as PICE SLU-SC, PIIE SLU-SC, IECEP SLU-SC, and PICHE-JSLUC, underscoring a commitment to holistic academic support.
Project MaTuto has provided invaluable guidance to students in various general engineering courses, including General Chemistry, Pre-Calculus, Mathematics in the Modern World, Differential Calculus, Differential Equations, and Integral Calculus. The co-curricular organizations that partnered with this project offered subjects unique to their programs. Through interactive discussions and study techniques from the tutors, students are equipped with the tools necessary to navigate their examinations with confidence.
The success of Project MaTuto has paved the way for its evolution, with each semester witnessing both enhancements and expansions. The organization believes that no student should be left behind. Students unable to attend these mass tutorials due to conflicts in their class schedules were also given the opportunity to book individual or group tutoring sessions through the organization’s free tutorial services, which opened on September 5, 2023, and continuously accepts students who wish to acquire help in their academics.
Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals of Quality Education (SDG 4), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnership for the Goals (SDG 17), Project MaTuto embodies a commitment to fostering academic excellence while promoting justice and peace, in line with the CICM Advocacy.
As Project MaTuto continues to thrive, it serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and mission-driven initiatives in shaping the educational landscape. Through its unwavering dedication, Project MaTuto stands as a guiding light for students on their academic journey. (School of Engineering and Architecture Honor Society)
