Officers of the Philippines Association of Engineering Schools (PAES) convened at the SIRIB Center of the School of Engineering and Architecture of Saint Louis University on 8 April 2024 for its planning session in preparation for the first National Engineering Education Summit (NEEdS) slated in September 2024 at the Mapua University with the motto: “Philippine Engineering Education 4.0: Confronting Challenges, Shaping the Future through Artificial Intelligence.”
Led by the incumbent PAES President Prof. Romano Q. Neyra with PAES adviser and past president, Prof. Alberto A. Laurito, the session was attended by engineering deans and administrators from Adamson University, Ateneo de Manila University, Bulacan State University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, Central Philippine University-Iloilo, Far Eastern University Institute of Technology, National University, Saint Louis University, Technological University of the Philippines – Manila, and University of Santo Tomas.
A special session in the afternoon welcomed deans and program chairpersons from seven other engineering universities in Northern Luzon, namely: Baguio Central University, Benguet State University, Ifugao State University, University of Baguio, University of Northern Philippines, University of the Cordilleras, and Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation. An orientation on the upcoming NEEdS was shared by the PAES Board followed by benchmarking of best practices in Outcomes Based Education, accreditation, quality assurance, and continuous professional development, among others. The PAES Board was also able to interact with the university officials and engineering program administrators of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila who were concurrently hosted by SLU in a benchmarking activity.
True to its slogan, “No School Engineering School Left Behind,” PAES continuously strives to elevate engineering education in the country, reaching out to as many engineering educators as possible through capacity building activities both online and in-person.
