Saint Louis University (SLU) and Called To Rescue PH joined forces to launch the ‘ESKAPE’ advocacy tour in Baguio, aimed at combating human trafficking in the Philippines.
Led by Anthony Pangilinan, President of Called To Rescue PH; Dr. Cyndi Romine, the organization’s International Founder; and celebrity actor Donny Pangilinan, the campaign kicked off on 27 June 2024, at the SLU-School of Law Moot Court. The event started with a courtesy call to the University President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, marking a step in the joint effort to rescue and safeguard victims of trafficking nationwide.
In his opening address, SOL Dean Atty. Jerico Gay-ya urged participants to integrate the insights and lessons from Called To Rescue PH into their personal advocacy efforts, emphasizing the transformative impact of collective action within the SLU community. “”After all, the advocacy of Called to Rescue is one that is shared by SLU and by all of us gathered at today’s activity.”Atty. Gay-ya remarked.
The ‘ESKAPE’ advocacy tour resonates deeply with Donny Pangilinan’s role as “Eskape” in his latest film, “GG The Movie,” which explores the challenges faced by a young gamer navigating competitive gaming amidst familial adversities.
Dr. Romine emphasized the critical role of Called To Rescue PH as a dependable resource for those in crisis, reaffirming the organization’s unwavering commitment to providing holistic support and solutions to individuals in need. She also emphasized that when people do not know who to trust, their organization is one they can call and their organization will not leave them hanging.
During his talk session, Mr. Anthony shared narratives of the organization’s tireless efforts in rescuing trafficked children and advocating for their rights nationwide, stressing the importance of justice and safety for vulnerable youth.
Further, Donny Pangilinan articulated the tour’s purpose and objective: to raise awareness and mobilize actionable responses against human trafficking, particularly its impact on children. “If not now, then when?” he passionately urged.
This event aligns with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
Called To Rescue PH stands at the forefront of the anti-human trafficking movement in the Philippines, dedicated to rescuing and safeguarding children from exploitation and abuse. Through robust advocacy, education, and prevention initiatives, the organization aims to create a future where every child is safe, protected, and empowered to thrive.
In a similar vein, Saint Louis University has always endeavored to champion human dignity and human rights through excellent and principled education.
