The Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines – Cordillera Administrative Region (CEAP-CAR), through the able leadership of Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, (CEAP-CAR Trustee and President of Saint Louis University), conducted a two-day Seminar-Workshop on MATATAG Curriculum in preparation for the coming academic year 2024-2025. Teachers from CAR and nearby provinces attended the said seminar-workshop. This seminar-workshop is granted 12-CPD Credit Units by the Professional Regulation Commission.
In the opening message of Rev. Fr. Sales, he mentioned that after the launching of the MATATAG Curriculum in 10 August 2023 by Hon. Sara Duterte-Carpio, Vice President and then DepEd Secretary, the CEAP-CAR started planning on how Catholic and Private schools in CAR can immediately prepare for this new academic endeavor in the Basic Education Sector. Rev. Fr. Sales emphasized the need to prepare an upgraded Curriculum Map that will train and mold learners based on the school’s vision-mission and core values; hence, developing them become holistic individuals. He thanked the attendees that their presence was a manifestation of their dedication and commitment to providing Quality Basic Education in Catholic and Private Schools.
Features of the MATATAG Curriculum: General Shaping Paper, 21st Century Skills, Pedagogies, Use of Technology, and Instructional Design Framework were presented. Facilitators for different learning areas discussed the subject area Shaping Paper, Curriculum Guide, Curriculum Unpacking, Assessment, and Pedagogies. Dr. Joselito C. Gutierrez, who led the team of facilitators who were trained by Coordinating Council for Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA), discussed the Framework in Upgrading the Lesson Delivery of Catholic, Christian, and Private Schools and Curriculum Mapping aligned with the respective institution’s philosophy, vision, mission, objectives, and core values, targeted 21st century skills, and targeted UNSDGs.
The Curriculum Maps, as the final output of the participants, were presented to culminate the 2-day seminar-workshop.
To end the event, Mrs. Annie Marie B. Caguioa, CEAP-CAR Treasurer and Directress of the Saint Louis School Inc., challenged the attendees to contextualize the GMRC of the MATATAG Curriculum saying that teachers must always be Grateful Missionaries Responsible for the Common good of the learners.
