14 August 2024 – Three exceptional students from Saint Louis University Basic Education School (SLU BEDS) – Senior High were honored with the prestigious Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Award by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). This accolade, presented during a ceremony at the Newtown Plaza Hotel, recognizes their outstanding achievements in international STEM competitions. They were among forty-nine students from the Cordillera Administrative Region to receive this esteemed recognition.
Emil Peterson Borromeo was celebrated for his silver medal in the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO), while Justin Apuntar earned a gold medal in the Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO). In addition, Rhea Sabado received a bronze medal in the Thailand International Mathematical Olympiad (TIMO). Borromeo also received an award from his achievement as a former student from Apayao Science High School. The students expressed profound gratitude to their Senior High teachers—Mrs. Maricris Galang, Mrs. Tahiri Olat, and Mrs. Jenny Cabanilla—as well as the other educators in the Math and Sciences department, led by Mrs. Analiza Pagaling.
Their achievements not only highlight their individual talents but also underscore the growing prominence of Saint Louis University in nurturing top-tier scientific minds. The school’s principal, Mr. Alejandro P. Pablico, proudly accepted a Certificate of Recognition on behalf of SLU BEDS, acknowledging the school’s active participation in international STEM competitions.
The YES Award, an annual event, symbolizes the DOST’s commitment to recognizing youth achievements in STEM and fostering a culture of excellence, perseverance, and success across the Philippines.
