Saint Louis University’s (SLU) Office of the University President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, in coordination with the University Libraries and American Corner Baguio, held an initial meeting and ocular inspection with the Hon. Barangay Captain Angelina C. Ramos and Hon. Barangay Kagawad Michael V. Binay-an and Kagawad Oliver F. Binayan of Brgy. Camp 7 for a potential partnership in adopting a Creek on 03 October 2024 at Verdepino Drive, Camp 7. This creek is a tributary to Bued River that passes through Kennon Road going to La Union province.

SLU Representatives during the initial meeting and ocular were School of Accountancy, Management, Computing and Information Studies (SAMCIS) Dean Glory I. Dela Peña, SAMCIS staff Mr. Juwell Pangilinan and Orlando Rimorin Jr., Director of Community Extension and Outreach Programs Office (CEOPO) Mrs. Charmaine P. Mendoza, US Peace Corps Volunteer Ms. Eboni J. Williams, and Executive Assistant to the SLU President, Joselito C. Gutierrez, PhD.

The SLU team showcased the university’s existing Sewage Treatment Plant to the barangay officials to inform them how SLU protects the environment by ensuring that water is maintained clean before disposal. The proposed partnership aims to rehabilitate and protect the creeks and its banks. This initiative will be led by various student environmental organizations and other partner agencies.

SLU’s partnership with the Barangay of Camp 7 while maintaining alignment with the American Spaces’ Pillar on Skills Development Programs affirms its dedication to implementing the Church and CICM advocacies on Ecological Integrity, and supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
