The new United States Peace Corps Volunteer (USPC) Eboni Williams experienced a series of enriching encounters that set a positive tone for her upcoming journey on her inaugural day at Saint Louis University (SLU).
The university warmly welcomed Eboni, fostering an immediate sense of belonging and readiness for the day’s activities. This initial interaction exemplified the supportive environment at SLU, which encouraged her eagerness to engage in her new role.
Following lunch, Eboni had the privilege of meeting Father Gilbert, whose gracious demeanor left a lasting impression during their first interaction. The inviting atmosphere of his office further contributed to her positive experience, highlighting the warm community spirit at the university.
A significant highlight of Eboni’s day was her participation in her first community outreach event at the picturesque Happy Hollow barangay. There, she engaged with approximately thirty participants who had previously acquired skills in making chili paste and other livelihood initiatives. This experience underscored the impactful nature of community service and the importance of skill-sharing in fostering local resilience.
As the day culminated in a Mass attended on campus, Eboni reflected on her unique experience as someone raised in a different religious tradition. Her openness to diverse cultures and practices is a cornerstone of her volunteer journey.
In contemplating her experiences, she felt a renewed sense of inspiration and commitment to embrace the challenges and learning opportunities that lie ahead over the next two years. With an open mind and a willingness to learn from those around her, Eboni is poised to make meaningful contributions to both the SLU community and the broader landscape of service. She will be volunteering for the Community Extension and Outreach Programs of the university.
