Baguio Association of Government Grantees and Scholars – Saint Louis University (BAGGS) is a duly recognized organization of government grantees and scholars in Saint Louis University. The halloween-themed Team Building Activity and Acquaintance Party for scholars held on October 13, 2024 at Vath Building, Saint Louis University was a vibrant and successful event aimed at fostering camaraderie, collaboration, and a sense of belonging among participants.
All of the activities highlighted the importance of adaptability, strategic planning, and collaboration in leadership. Leaders must navigate unexpected challenges, make quick decisions, and keep their teams motivated despite shifting dynamics. The exercise reinforces that success is not just about having the best resources but also about how effectively a team communicates, innovates, and supports one another under pressure. It also teaches resilience, as teams must continuously adjust their strategies while maintaining focus on the end goal. Ultimately, strong leadership is about guiding a team through uncertainty, fostering cooperation, and turning obstacles into opportunities for growth.
During team-building, challenges such as communication barriers, time constraints, and adapting to sudden rule changes created difficulties in coordination and decision-making. These issues were mitigated by encouraging open dialogue, assigning clear roles within teams, and fostering a mindset of adaptability through facilitator guidance. A post-activity debrief allowed participants to reflect on their experiences, share insights, and identify areas for improvement. For future events, it is recommended to provide clearer instructions, allocate more time for team adjustments, and incorporate structured leadership discussions to enhance teamwork and problem-solving skills.
The event featured a series of interactive games and challenges designed to strengthen teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging environment. Scholars had the opportunity to connect with peers, building new friendships and reinforcing a supportive academic community. The acquaintance party followed, filled with lively music, icebreaker activities, and moments of celebration that highlighted the diverse talents and personalities within the group. This event not only created lasting memories but also cultivated a spirit of unity and inclusivity, ensuring that all participants felt welcomed and valued as part of the scholar community. The activity successfully set a positive tone for the academic year, inspiring collaboration and mutual support among scholars in their shared journey.
These activities align with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by encouraging social interaction and mental well-being, reducing stress, and creating a supportive environment where scholars can thrive emotionally and socially. By incorporating educational and skill-building components, such as problem-solving and effective communication, they support SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing scholars’ competencies beyond the classroom. The event promotes inclusivity and equality, addressing SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) by ensuring that all scholars, regardless of background, feel welcomed and valued, breaking down social barriers and building unity. Additionally, the collaborative nature of the event exemplifies SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering connections and partnerships within the academic community, encouraging teamwork and shared goals for collective growth and success. Through these efforts, the activities contribute to the scholars’ personal, academic, and social development in meaningful ways. (Article and Photos by BAGGS – SLU)
