Saint Louis University (SLU) welcomed representatives from Urdaneta Sacred Heart Medical Center for a brief meeting and courtesy visit at the Executive Board Room, Administrative Center Building, SLU Main Campus in the afternoon of 16 October 2024.
Led by the University President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD and the School of Nursing, Allied Health, and Biological Sciences (SONAHBS) Dean Ann Opiña, SLU discussed potential partnerships with the Urdaneta Sacred Heart Medical Center (USHMC) specifically in with respect to internships of Bachelor of Science (BS) Medical Laboratory Science, BS Nursing RLE (Related Learning Experience), BS Pharmacy (Hospital Internship), and BS Radiologic Technology students.


SLU’s partnership with USHMC on the different courses’ internships aims to be able to provide the students with hands-on learning opportunities, exposing them to departmental facilities, laboratories, enhance their knowledge on equipment safety and practices, and familiarization with the different medical systems and services.
Additionally, the courtesy call and conversation on the potential partnerships support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals), affirming the University’s dedication to capacity development in the medical field and further supplements healthcare excellence not for only future Louisian medical professionals, but for the multi-stakeholder partnerships under healthcare industries.
