Saint Louis University Research and Ethics Committee (SLU-REC) welcomed Abra State Institute of Science and Technology (ASIST) for a benchmarking activity to develop its research and ethics standards. The event was hosted by the Office of Global Relations and Alumni Affairs (OGRAA) on 21 October 2024 and held at the International Teahouse, Administrative Building, SLU Main Campus.

The Executive Assistant to the President of SLU, Joselito C. Gutierrez, PhD, and the SLU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Felina P. Espique, PhD, warmly delivered their welcome remarks to the ASIST faculty members.


Professor Rainier C. Moreno-Lacalle, PhD, Chair of the Research Ethics Committee, delivered a presentation outlining the committee’s history and foundations, detailing how the university ensures its research adheres to ethical standards. “A good research is ethical research,” he remarked. Alongside Dr. Lacalle was Research Ethics Committee Secretary Ms. Ester M. Bersamira who also responded to the questions from the ASIST faculty members focusing on the conduct of review. Working with the committee for more than a decade now, Ms. Bersamira is responsible for the committee’s communication and dissemination processes. ASIST expressed their gratitude and excitement for future opportunities and collaborations with SLU-REC.



The partnership between Abra State Institute of Science and Technology and Saint Louis University solidifies the commitment to advancing collaboration and enhancing knowledge in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
