Zachary Ezekial Cabalan (BSCS 1) and John Kenneth Abalos (BSCE 1), with their coach Mr. Clarenz Magsakay from the Mathematics Department, represented Saint Louis University during the recently concluded 28th Philippine Statistics Quiz (PSQ) Regional Championships – CAR on 8 November 2024 and won 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Mr. Cabalan was tied with the eventual champion from University of the Philippines (UP)-Baguio by the end of the competition that was only decided via its tiebreaker rules, while Mr. Abalos followed both contestants at just one point behind.
The PSQ is an annual national statistics competition for freshmen students. SLU holds the distinction of being the most successful institution from the Cordilleras across its 28 editions spanning more than 30 years.
This achievement affirms the Laudato Si Goals (LSG) of Community Resilience and Empowerment and United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 Quality Education by promoting the value of academic excellence through the importance of statistics to Louisian students.
Furthermore, SLU’s continued participation in the annual PSQ reflects the CEAP JEEPGY goal of Engaged Citizenship and Youth Empowerment by supporting our students in representing the university in competitions where they can show their capabilities and demonstrate their knowledge and competency with other members of the youth that are participating.
