The Filipino Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, Inc. (FILSCAP) visited Saint Louis University (SLU) on 14 November 2024 as part of its Campus Caravan to cultivate the creative innovations of Louisians.
The FILSCAP Campus Caravan 2024 in Baguio City, held at Waldo Perfecto Building, SLU Main Campus, was organized through the SLU University Research and Innovation Center (UnRIC) and SLU Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), welcoming over a hundred musically inclined Louisians from different schools and organizations, including the SLU Basic Education School High School Department.
UnRIC Director, Richel L. Lamadrid, PhD, officially opened the program, followed by FILSCAP Vice President, Rodolfo “Tito” Cayamanda, who extended appreciation to the SLU community in facilitating their 3rd Campus Caravan held nationwide. He shared his insights on being in the music industry, emphasizing how “writing songs is very fulfilling,” to encourage the young and creative attendees on songwriting.
Filipino singer-songwriter, Davey Ryan Edward Langit— renowned for his hit song “Selfie Song”— served as the event’s guest speaker. Through his crash course on “songwriting introduction,” he discussed the fundamental concepts and explored the nuances involved in songwriting. In between the session, Mr. Langit kept the audience engaged by performing some of his songs.
Mr. Langit also shared his creative process of writing a song and relevant tips in creating impactful music, highlighting that “everything we have is connected to human emotion,” a significant factor to consider as an artist. He further underscored the importance of keeping in touch with emotions in producing quality and immersive musical compositions.
Through this event, SLU, together with FILSCAP, reaffirms its dedication to enriching the creative innovations of the Louisian Community while maintaining its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), particularly SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
