Saint Louis University remains to be a Center of Excellence for Teacher Education. This was revealed by the Teacher Education Council (TEC) as it extended SLU’s role as the Teacher Education-Center of Excellence (COE) for an additional year, from 1 November 2024 to 30 November 2025.
The extension aligns with the provisions of Republic Act No. 11713, also known as the Excellence in Teacher Education Act. Section 8 (d) of the Act mandates TEC to identify and designate Teacher Education-COEs among existing private and public TEIs for the supervision, monitoring, and regulation of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Moreover, it tasks TEC to formulate a strategic plan in order to proactively develop Teacher Education-COEs in every region and province.
During the extension period, SLU will actively engage in the following roles as a Teacher Education-COE:
- Supporting TEC in the development of a new recognition and performance system for the identification and designation of Teacher Education-COEs;
- Providing technical support to the review and reframing of the pre-service teacher education curriculum and other priorities of the Council and
- Assigning a dedicated focal person to represent the University in collaborating with TEC initiatives.
The ceremonial awarding and meeting will happen on 27 November 2024 at the Bulwagan ng Karunungan, Rizal Building, DepEd Central Office, Pasig City, NCR.
The extension of SLU’s Designation as Teacher Education-COE is a testament to its commitment to quality education, which is in direct alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 4. (Article by: Keziah Vestidas, UIO Intern)
