The Saint Louis University Basic Education School – Laboratory High School Department (SLU BEdS – LHS) kicked off Intramurals 2025 on 16 January 2025 at the Gerard Decaestecker Open Court, SLU Navy Base Campus with lively cheers from various teams, all eager to showcase their athletic skills. SLU BEdS Principal Alejandro P. Pablico welcomed guests and participants to this much-anticipated occasion.

Following the opening, University President Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, delivered an encouraging message that emphasized the importance of team spirit and camaraderie among participants. “With the theme, ‘Strengthening a Culture of Wellness through Healthy Competition,’ this year’s Intramurals reminds about the valuable impact of sports as well as healthy competition in the lives of our students,” Fr. Sales stated. “Mens sana in corpore sano: ‘A healthy mind in a healthy body.’ Indeed, in SLU, we ensure and continuously work to provide holistic formation of everyone, especially our students. We pursue a balanced development of students as we complement our commitment to academic excellence with activities that promote the various but related aspects of life,” he emphasized.

The SLU – BEdS’ open court was graced with competitive spirits and distinguished personalities ready for the competitions set for the two-day display of athleticism. This includes the three judges – Oliver F. Gutierrez, PhD, Mr. Jonathan Paul P. Gines, and Mr. Rufu Nilo L. Maitu Jr. – who will judge the first series of events: Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) Pakulo Competitions, and the JHS and SHS Cheering Competitions.
The Cheer Dance Competition then followed in different categories: JHS, SHS, and SHS Hip Hop. Judges for these events were Mr. Albin Santos, Weigh Jann C. Tamayo, Merle Garcia, and Salvatore L. Dogaong.
The Awarding Ceremonies before the Words of Thanks by Mrs. Lorna E. Lucas, Assistant to the Principal for Academics, will put a close to the day’s feats.
The Intramurals 2025 affirms with the CICM Advocacies of Justice, Peace, Integrity of Creation and fosters the JPIC values of youth empowerment. It is also aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well Being) and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
