Saint Louis University (SLU) conducted a blessing ceremony for the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at the School of Accountancy, Management, Computing and Information Studies (SAMCIS), SLU Maryheights Campus, Bakakeng, on 28 January 2025.
This marks the fifth STP installed by SLU. As it can be remembered, aside from the STP at the Maryheights Campus, other wastewater treatment systems of SLU are located at the Main Campus, Navy Base Campus, as well as at the SLU Sacred Heart Medical Center (SLU-SHMC).
Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, led the blessing ceremony through the cutting of ribbon, a prayer and expression of gratitude. Alongside him was SLU Vice President for Mission and Identity and Parish Priest, Fr. Emery Ebumea Mwako, CICM. Members of the SLU administration and the SAMCIS staff also attended the ceremony.

Driven by a commitment to promoting sustainability and to help preserve the integrity of God’s creation based on Laudato Si’ Goals, the STP helps protect the environment by treating sewage from public sewers and converting it into clean, odor-free water.
The Sewage Treatment Plant serves to remove contaminants from sewage to produce an effluent that is suitable for discharge to the surrounding environment or an intended reuse application, thereby preventing water pollution from raw sewage discharges.
SLU’s continued establishment and improvement of facilities that promote sustainability and development affirms the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), 12 (Responsible Production and Consumption), 13 (Climate Action), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals). It is also in consonance with the CICM Advocacy of Integrity of Creation.
