As a collaborative effort between the School of Engineering (SEA) – Industrial Engineering Department and the School of Accountancy, Management, Computing and Information Studies (SAMCIS) – Computer Science & Computer Applications (CS-CA) Departments for the 5S-LIFE extension program, a three-day computer literacy training session was held for the Happy Hallow Barangay Council.
The three-day session, held on 7 and 10 February and 10 March 2025, was part of the 4th S (Standardization) in the 5S-LIFE methodology. It aimed to enhance the barangay council’s computer skills, enabling them to provide faster, more accurate, and timely services to the barangay citizens.
The sessions were facilitated by faculty members from the CS-CA Departments, namely: Dr. Josephine Dela Cruz, Janet Itliong, Ma-Clarissa Mabitazan, Kay Audrey Urbano, John Paulo Bacani, Maeflor Tipayno, Archie Canuto, Kyle Patrick Ancheta, Romulos Amistad, Terrence Castillo, and Jay Tyrone Domingcil.

The activities conducted on the aforementioned dates covered the following:
- Google Docs: Participants learned to create, format, and collaborate on documents, utilizing features such as templates, styling tools, creating tables, and merging of cells.
- Google Sheets: The training focused on inputting data in the spreadsheet.
- Google Slides: This covered designing presentations, incorporating basic multimedia elements, and leveraging collaborative features for team projects.
- Canva: Participants were introduced to graphic design principles, generating slides with proper usage of graphics, and using Canva’s design tools to enhance projects while collaborating with other people.
- Feedback and Evaluation: Participants provided valuable feedback and shared insights on what they learned from the three sessions and evaluation of extension activity for proper monitoring and feedback.
- Awarding of Certificates: A program was held to recognize the participants of the extension sessions, where they were acknowledged for their active participation and the skills they acquired. The event also celebrated the collective effort of Barangay Happy Hallow, whose support and involvement were key to the success of the program.
During the extension activities, the barangay council members recognized the value of the skills they acquired in enhancing their computer literacy. They acknowledged the importance of embracing technological advancements to improve their work efficiency and service delivery, with the goal of better serving the barangay citizens. Such initiatives are aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
