Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, CICM, PhD, President of Saint Louis University (SLU), has joined the distinguished group of global education leaders as a signatory to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Accord, underscoring the university’s commitment to advancing the United Nations SDGs through education, research, and institutional leadership.
The SDG Accord is an international initiative supported by the United Nations and administered by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), with the support of over 60 endorsing sustainability networks and partners. Its purpose is twofold: to inspire, celebrate, and advance the critical role of education in achieving the SDGs, and to foster a public commitment among learning institutions to do more to deliver on these goals.
Signatories pledge to annually report on their progress, sharing best practices and outcomes both nationally and internationally. These reports are presented at the UN High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, providing valuable insights into the sector’s collective impact.
By signing the SDG Accord, Fr. Sales, in his capacity as the highest institutional representative of SLU, aligns the university with a consortium comprising over 330 institutions, more than 60 student associations, about 220 support organizations, and nearly 2,000 individual signatories across 85 countries. This public commitment positions SLU within a global network dedicated to the integration of sustainable development principles into education, research, institutional leadership, operational practices, and community engagement.
