Saint Louis University (SLU) unveiled its newly renovated aquatic facility through a ceremonial blessing on 11 September 2025 held at the Maryheights Campus, Bakakeng.
The renovation that built the swimming pool enclosure was geared to upgrade the overall structure including the pool, bleachers, pump room, admin office, and cottages. Further, the enclosure creates a safe, controlled, and weather-independent environment that is crucial for teaching swimming and water safety. This promotes better and safer services to Louisians especially those with swimming as a physical education subject.

The blessing ceremony began with the ribbon cutting led by SLU Vice President for Administration, Atty. Shellah Yzanne P. Merced; SLU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Felina P. Espique, PhD; SLU School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) Dean, Mary Pauline E. Namoca, PhD; and SLU STELA Associate Dean, Teresita D. Ignacio, PhD. The event was witnessed by the SLU management team as well as the representatives of the partner-contractor, Elamparo Design and Construction.

Thereafter, the blessing commenced facilitated by Fr. Nicolas Citolo, CICM and Rev. Fr. Geraldo Costa, CICM. Fr. Nicolas expressed that the purpose of the newly covered swimming pool not only brings Louisians together but also serves as a place that enhances one’s well-being and a sanctuary for receiving positive energy, safety, and harmony. “Bless us with recreation that refreshes our mind,” he said in his intercessory prayer.
SLU’s initiatives to improve the students’ learning experiences through renovation affirms its commitment to quality holistic education aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 9 (Industry, Infrastructure, and Innovation).
