Four 4th year Bachelor of Arts in Communication students of Saint Louis University (SLU) of the SLU School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts Languages and Communication Department were awarded for their active participation in the celebration of the 64th Anniversary of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education at Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia.
Emmanuel Gonzales, Kemm Mitchell Olarte, and Guenne Gabriel Patano bagged 1st place for the International Podcast Creation Competition with their podcast entry “COMM Pares Podcast: Digital Literacy and Disinformation,” highlighting young voices for challenges on education, literacy, and information disorder in the global stage, which was anchored on the theme, “Student Voices on Global Challenges: Advancing Character Education, Climate Action, and Technological Innovation for a Sustainable Future.”
Moreover, out of 40 participants, Elisha Joy Gattoc secured 8th place in the International Essay Competition with her essay piece, “From Classroom Leaders to Changemakers: Youth Leadership as a Path to Character-based Education,” emphasizing student leadership as a stepping stone to foster changes in the education sector which followed the theme, “Character Education and Innovative Collaboration, Achieving Quality Education as an Impactful Campus.”
The awarding convened through Zoom last 20 September 2025.
These achievements showcased Louisian innovation and strongly embody the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education), 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), and 17 (Partnership for the Goals).
